Here I am again promoting Proposition 8, the Protect Marriage Act here in California.
Have you ever heard the saying, something to the effect of that California is usually the first State to pass/fail something controversial, that what ever the outcome is in California, then the rest of the Nation follows? Well, consider the following if Proposition 8 fails in California, the following will most likely happen in the rest of the Nation:
1. Children in public schools will be taught that both traditional marriage and same-sex marriage are okay.
The California Education Code already requires that health education classes instruct children about marriage. (§51890)
Therefore, if the definition of marriage is changed, children will be taught that marriage is a relation between any two adults. There will be serious clashes between the secular school system and the right of parents to teach their children their own values and beliefs.
2. Churches will be sued if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their religious buildings that are open to the public. Ask whether your pastor, priest, minister, bishop, or rabbi is ready to perform such marriages in your chapels and sanctuaries.
3. Religious adoption agencies will be challenged by government agencies to give up their long-held right to place children only in homes with both a mother and a father. Catholic Charities in Boston has already closed its doors because of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.
4. Religions that sponsor private schools and which provide housing for married students will be required to provide housing for same-sex couples, even if it runs counter to church doctrine, or lose tax exemptions and benefits.
5. Ministers who preach against same-sex marriages will be sued for hate speech and could be fined by the government. It has already happened in Canada, one of six countries that have legalized gay marriage.
6. It will cost you money. A change in the definition of marriage will bring a cascade of lawsuits. Even if courts eventually find in favor of a defender of traditional marriage (highly improbable given today’s activist judges), think of the money – your money, your church contributions – that will have to be spent on legal fees.
And think of all the unintended consequences that we cannot even foresee at this time. Where will it end? It’s your children, your grandchildren, your money, and your liberties. Lets work together to protect them.

What about campaign finance rules? There is no rule or law that says one group or another group cannot go out and freely promote something they feel is right. Aren't most people that work on one campaign or another volunteers? Sure they are, that's all the LDS church is doing, providing volunteers to go out and poll people and provide information about Prop 8. I'm LDS and if I had more time, I'd be out there too, giving my free time to promote Prop 8. As it is, I'm promoting it via my blogg.
I understand that you're not breaking the letter of the law, but the level of coordination on the LDS side really runs contrary to the spirit of our laws:
Feeling the spirit of political rules
Re "The 6 Consequences"
The "information" that these volunteers are spreading under the title "Six Consequences if Proposition 8 Fails" is absolutely false.
How does outright lying help or protect anyone?
Isn't spreading falsehoods an utter betrayal of your civic duty?
This election will be over in November but the memory of this false witness will remain long after.
The 6 Lies of the "Yes on 8" Side
"Yes on 8" Side Is Bearing False Witness
You need to check your source about the use of LDS Tithing being used to support Prop 8 in California. IT IS NOT! I have heard many times from the pulpit the last month or so that if anyone wants to donate to support Prop 8, then that person(s) can use a tithing slip and note on the slip that it is for Prop 8 support ONLY! and the funds collected will be forward to the appropriate people.
And in regards to the 6 Consequences if Prop 8 Fails... you really think that the gay and lesbian agenda does not include those 6 items?? I gather you don't live in California... which means you haven't got a clue at how liberal the courts are in favor of the gay agenda. I promise you that if Prop 8 fails, the gays will push everyone of those items and within 6 months there will be lawsuits and fights in the courts that will side with the gays.
Why don't you move to California and live here for 20+ years and you'll see just how messed up this state is...
Hey Mike,
Thanks for spreading the word. I found your blog while trying to research libertyaction.org I am glad there are a lot of people like you trying to let people know the consequences of voting no on Prop. 8. I agree completely. Just so you know...I just started my blog, and share my similar viewpoint there including links to the judges' overruling of the original proposition. My Blog
JM
Good words.
